Who we are & how we can help

You may have experienced difficulties such as trauma and loss, difficulties in your current and past relationships, or you may be struggling with anxiety, low mood, or self-esteem issues. We understand how deeply these experiences can affect your life. Everyone’s aims are different, whether it is about staying present, reconnecting in your relationships, regulating your emotions, getting back to work or creating a felt sense of thriving.  We want to support you to identify and work towards the aims that are meaningful to you.

Models of therapy

There are many therapists out there that work in a variety of ways. At Sugi Psychology we are all HCPC registered meaning we are all regulated Clinical Psychologists who have had extensive and rigorous training over a number of years.

When finding a therapist, we talk about the importance of finding someone that ‘fits’ for you. This means, can you sit with them and feel like you can work with them? For example, we all know we get on with some people better than others - it’s the same for therapy.

As well as finding a good fit for you, it’s also worth thinking about the ‘way’ the therapist works. The model of therapy is the vehicle that drives the direction of the journey. Each ‘model’ has a different focus or way of making sense of difficulties. Our psychologists are trained in a range of models, such as EMDR, CAT, ACT, CBT, DBT, Narrative, IFS, and CFT.

Therapists often specialise in a particular model, but may be trained in other approaches that they integrate into their practice. Do feel free to ask your therapist about how they work, they will be happy to talk this through. If you aren’t sure which model might suit you best, please get in touch and we can advise.
